Shackleton Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Limited Edition Reborn

I feel I have have been very fortunate to have been able to taste a special commemorative bottling of a truly unique blended whisky. Shackleton Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Limited Edition Reborn ( Blended). This faithful reproduction of the actual Mackinlay's whisky taken on the ill fated Shackleton Antarctic expedition to the South pole in 1907. Presented in a replica bottle and wooden case - just as Shackleton left it.
For me this is a wonderful dram which has a  mystique about it and a sense of adventure! For a blended whisky they have produced a grand dram which will sell well and appear in many a collection, but I personally would share this with friends and tell everyone how enjoyable it was!!
The colour is a light honey, straw gold with shimmering highlights. To the nose it is soft, elegant and refined. Delicate aromas of crushed apple, pear and fresh pineapple arouse the senses. The spirit is exciting and vibrant with attractive notes of oak shavings that release hints of buttery vanilla, creamy caramel and nutmeg. A whisper of citrus, cinnamon and even a tease of smoke? This is bottled at 47.3% which warms your throat and leaves your taste buds tingling with pleasure.

Scoring
8 out of 10 points for taste - a real adventure....
8 out of 10 points for character and body
9 out of 10 points on value for money
25/30
